The City installs the required signage one to two business days before the start date, and generally requires a minimum of seven to ten business days from payment to process and issue a permit — so curbside bins need to be planned ahead. Under the City of Vancouver Solid Waste By-law No. 8417, a private container must be maintained in a clean and sanitary condition, including the area within 1.5 metres of it, must not be allowed to overflow onto the street or lane, and — if it is greater than one cubic yard and visible from a street or lane — must be kept locked except when waste is being added.
